Project Description
Jackson Pollock and Lee Krasner were leading artists of the Abstract Expressionist movement in the mid-twentieth century. The VR experience “Tracing Paint” allows visitors to immerse in a virtual reality recreation of the barn studio in which these artists worked.
In the experience, visitors can walk around the virtual space and hear the artists talk about the creation of their well-known masterpieces. The experience features Pollock’s famous poured paintings up close and personal on the paint-splattered studio floor. The VR tour also showcases the transition of the barn studio into the main workspace of Lee Krasner, who preferred to tack her canvases on the walls. In addition, visitors hear from multiple art critics to gain a better context of the artists’ work.
Produced by MediaCombo, I joined the team of developers and writers to help push forward the user experience of the project. My work included solving design challenges such as locomotion, navigation, interactive narrative, onboarding, accessibility, and UI while maintaining best practices for VR design.
Visitors can experience the virtual reality tour in addition to the physical tour of the Pollock-Krasner House and Study Center in Long Island. The experience will soon be available for download on the Oculus Quest store.
